State Library of Queensland and the Bundaberg Regional Library Service are offering free ‘hands on’ workshops for members of the community impacted by the floods, to demonstrate basic ways to salvage water damaged items and collections.
The workshop will give simple home based solutions for preserving books, documents, photographs, films, tapes, videos, cassettes and digital media.
Instruction will include simple ways to clean and dry the flood affected collections using readily available materials like spray or squeegee bottles, absorbent papers, drying lines, tables and pedestal fans
Two (2) half day workshops will be conducted on Friday 22nd February 2013 at the Woongarra Street training centre (next to the library).
Participants are encouraged to bring one item to the workshop where professional advice can be given for restoration.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Venues portfolio spokesperson, Cr. Lynne Forgan said she encouraged residents to bring their water damaged documents and pictures along to the workshop. “I think many people will be surprised at just what can be retrieved through the processes being shown at the workshops,” she said.
“For many people a lot of these items represent irreplaceable memories and they should take this opportunity to see if they can be salvaged.”
Bookings are essential. To make a booking contact Jill Fulcher, Bundaberg library, on 4130 4133.
