The aerial salutes for this year’s regional ANZAC Day Services will be performed by a WWII Wirraway CA-16 MK3 fighter/light bomber and sponsored by the Bundaberg Regional Council.
Built in January 1945, the aircraft saw service with the RAAF in the final stages of the war and was retired about 9 years later. In the early 1990’s it was fully refurbished and rebuilt at Caboolture taking to the skies once more in 1997.
The scheduled fly-pasts for regional Services follows:
Bargara 6.10am
South Kolan 6.25am
Rosedale 6.35am
Bundaberg 9.45am
Gin Gin 10.05am
Childers 10.20am
Woodgate 10.35am
Elliott Heads 11.25am
Moore Park Beach 11.45am
Burnett Heads 2.50pm
Circuits of the township of Coral Cove, Innes Park, Bargara & Burnett Heads will take place between 11.25am & 11.45am as the aircraft travels up the coast
With a top speed of 600 km/h, the Wirraway is fully aerobatic and will be arriving in Bundaberg on 23rd April.
Earlier this month, Owner/Pilot, Ross Parker generously donated an adventure flight which was auctioned at the Bundaberg Rising Race Day to raise funds for the region’s flood recovery efforts.
Additional adventure flights are available on Wednesday 24th April at a cost of $500 which includes a 20 minute tour of the region with optional aerobatics included for those with a strong stomach.
