There’s been a fair bit of interest in the works being undertaken on the southern side of Watsons Road between Hughes & Seaview Roads so I thought that I’d provide some brief information.
-
The work being undertaken is the construction of the new Watsons Road Sewerage Pump Station.
-
This facility will be connected to an associated trunk sewer main which is required to service development in the southern areas of Bargara and eventually towards Innes Park, Coral Cove, Elliott Heads.
-
The construction of this section of the sewer main is necessary before the staged construction of the Hughes Road Extension from Watsons Road to Rifle Range Road can commence.
-
Initially the pump station will pump to the Bargara Treatment Plant at Neilson Park, however in the long term it will deliver sewerage to the proposed new Rubyanna plant.
-
The gravity main will be 525mm in diameter and this section will extend for approximately 2.2kms from the new pump station to Poinciana Drive on the eastern alignment of Windermere Road (pegs with pink tape are currently in place southwards from Rifle Range Road to identify the alignment).
-
The pump station has an initial capacity of 6,500 people and is expandable to 13,500 people subject to future demand.
-
The combined project cost of the pump station and gravity main to Poinciana Drive is estimated at $3.3M.
-
The project is expected to be completed by Feb 2014 however I need to emphasize that this is only one section of the overall southern trunk infrastructure proposal which will take some years to complete.
