Virgin Australia has been undertaking familiarisation activities at the Bundaberg Airport in recent days in preparation for the arrival of its first commercial flights into Bundaberg.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Economic Development spokesperson, Cr. Greg Barnes said the airline had recently appointed staff to undertake ground control operations in preparation for the arrival of Virgin’s first ATR72 flight into Bundaberg on May 4.
“Virgin certainly has not been marking time since the announcement that it would accept a role as a second commercial carrier with flights between Bundaberg and Brisbane.”
“A business lunch will be held on Friday, April 19 where local business operators will have the opportunity to speak directly with Virgin staff and to inspect the ATR72 aircraft at the Airport,” said Cr. Barnes.
However expanded business opportunities are not the only benefits on offer to the region.
“Virgin has also planned a Community Day on Saturday, April 27 where the general public is invited to attend the Airport, view the aircraft and learn more about the benefits than an additional airline can offer to the wider community”, he said.
“This has been a long-awaited announcement and we are now within weeks of seeing years of hard work by Council come to fruition.”
