VANDALS HIT BARGARA FORESHORE

Early this morning a group of young people completely destroyed two water bubblers and several toilets near Bargara’s Turtle Playground and across the road from Salt with damage estimated to be in the vicinity of $10,000.

A number of nearby residents reported that a group of male and female youths were in the vicinity just before 1.00am and were seen throwing skateboards in an attempts to smash the new overhead LED lights in the area.

Items of evidence were left at the scene which will hopefully assist the local Police and others from the Scene of Crime Section to identify the offenders.

I’ve previously requested CCTV cameras to be installed in the area and have this morning repeated that request. Cameras relying on the 3G network were previously trialled but performed poorly and were removed. I’ve now called for costs to install hard-wired or ADSL connected cameras and although these may be more expensive, they are far more reliable.

My thoughts on these mindless, psychologically challenged grubs is well known however when they leave used condoms right at the head of the sculptured turtle playground knowing that it will be the main focus for young children the following morning, they reach an all-time low.

Should an arrest/conviction be forthcoming, it’ll be up to the presiding magistrate to deliver an appropriate judgment. We can live in hope.
