VALE – JOHN SIMMS (1928 – 2013)

Every now and then we have the priviledge of coming across someone who makes a lasting impression on us and for me, John Simms was such a person.

John passed away peacefully on 4th May and will be remembered by those who knew him as a gentle, knowledgeable and passionate member of our community and a man who was held in the highest esteem.

Whilst I didn’t get the chance to socialise with him as often as I’d have liked, I did take every opportunity to have an inpromptu chat and share a cup of coffee with him at any one of the many local cafes that he  loved to frequent. Never without a smile on his face, it would light up even more whenever he met you as he extended his arm to give you that solid handshake that you knew emanated from a kind heart.

From a personal perspective, John’s positive outlook on life was refreshing. He was always the source of some frank and valuable advice and provided me with some much appreciated encouragement and incentive when times got a little tough.

His undeniable love for Bargara was evident during every conversation that I had with him and I’d certainly like a dollar for every time he said, “Greg, tell me mate, why on earth would anyone want to live anywhere else?”

Isobel and I would like to extend our deepest condolences to John’s extended family and close friends and hope that they take comfort from the esteem in which he was held.

Details of the funeral service are contained in the following obituary and the family would welcome the attendance of those who knew and loved him.
