This afternoon (Friday 13/11/15) the State Disaster Coordination Centre (SDCC) has advised that Severe Thunderstorms are likely over the weekend, especially on Saturday, and may impact the Bundaberg Local Government Area. This advice is provided by the SDCC in partnership with the Bureau of Meteorology as part of enhanced warning and forecasting services following significant weather events over the last couple of years.
The SDCC advises that through Saturday the main area of severe activity is expected to be over the south-eastern quarter of the state. Thunderstorms are likely to develop along a trough and also about elevated terrain before moving to the east during the afternoon and evening (on Saturday). High instability and favourable upper atmosphere winds are expected to generate some severe thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall, damaging wind gusts and large hail are all possible. Isolated supercell thunderstorms are also a possibility.
Advice for the next 24-48 hours is to monitor warnings and take precautionary action as required (eg: park vehicles under cover). You can monitor warnings, radar and rainfall here: www.bom.gov.au/qld
