THANKS TO STEVE BENNETT

I’d like to post my belated thanks to our local State Member, Steve Bennett for his assistance in resolving an issue in the lead-up to this year’s ANZAC Day event.

Despite having been granted an extended liquor licence for the Gunfire Breakfast at the pub over the previous 17 years, some bureaucrat decided to refuse it this year. I won’t go into all the details here but be it suffice it to say that a couple of days out from the event I was involved in……now how can I put this delicately?….let’s just say that it was an ‘interesting’ conversation with this guy who point blankly refused to budge from his personal interpretation of the legislation which obviously differed from that of his many predecessors. His decision not only threatened the Bargara event, but many others across the State on the nation’s most revered day of commemoration.

A quick call to Steve and a few hours later the decision was overturned and the licence issued. Steve not only kept me up to date with the progress of his representations (which I understand went straight to the Minister’s office), but he was able to quickly cut through some ridiculous red-tape to deliver what can only be described as a commonsense result.

My thanks to Steve and anyone else involved in resolving this issue.
