COMMENT SOUGHT ON PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS TO THE BASIN PARKLAND AREA
The Basin at Bargara Beach and the adjacent Christsen Park facilities have long been favourite recreation areas for families across the Bundaberg Region.
Bundaberg Regional Council is keen to gain community views on a proposed significant upgrade to Christsen Park and is seeking community feedback on a Draft Master Plan it has developed over the area.
Divisional representative, Cr Greg Barnes said Christsen Park is an extremely popular location and Council is looking to enhance the family friendly status of the Park.
“The draft concept Master Plan recommends the removal of the loop road to enable the area between the existing park and the oceanfront to become a broader expanse of parkland which can be better utilised for passive recreation and family activities.”
“This would also ensure a safer option for children and families utilising the area by removing a section of vehicular traffic which currently runs between the popular foreshore area and the BBQ, playground & toilet facilities ” Cr Barnes said.
“Clearly defined parking, a play equipment area and new picnic shelters are among the proposed improvements.”
Cr Barnes said the concept design allowed for the retention of many of the structures that had become an accepted part of a visit to The Basin.
“These building are still serviceable and hold fond memories for many residents.”
Cr Wayne Honor, Regulatory Services portfolio spokesperson said the proposed improvements reflected Council’s proactive approach to getting projects “shovel ready”.
“It is simply good planning to have these future projects progress through the required community consultation, design stages and costing and ready to move to construction once funding becomes available.”
Cr Honor said community consultation on the Christsen Park development would be undertaken through the circulation of hard copy survey forms and also online at Council’s website www.bundaberg.qld.gov.au with submissions closing on Monday, June 23.
“The concept design provides an extremely attractive revitalisation of the area and ensures there will be better connectivity between the park area, the walking path and the beach/foreshore area.”
