It’s encouraging to see that Ross Peddlesden is now supporting my long-standing push for the completion of the Hughes Road Extension (HRE) as I reported yesterday which, when completed, will see a considerable reduction in traffic movements on the heavily populated foreshore roadways of Miller Street, Woongarra Scenic Drive and various Esplanades.
It needs to be stressed that this is only the next stage of the HRE however once the other stages have been completed, the increase in traffic movements over the existing section of Hughes Road will almost certainly bolster the case for any State and/or Federal funding for the raising of the causeway near the child care centre to provide flood immunity and thus reduce the cost to ratepayers.
This was always going to be an extended and staged project however the impost of a couple of significant natural disasters haven’t helped.
As advised on a number of prior occasions, the proposed upgrade of the Bargara & Hughes Roads intersection will be a matter for the Department of Transport & Main Roads.
