STORM ALERT

The Executive of the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has met this morning to review the reports of possible storm activity over the next 24 hours including the possibility of severe storms. It should be noted that the LDMG has not been activated at this time.

There are concerns that social media reports which are being generated external to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) are creating a great deal of hype however there is no ability to predict with certainty if, when or where storms may impact until they appear on radar.

Therefore, it’s recommended that residents and visitors listen out for warnings on local radio, social media or the web…and keep an eye on the sky!

In the event of severe storms, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:

  * Move their car under cover.

  * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.

  * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.

  * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.

  * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.

  * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
