Local businessman Tim Sayre has published a ‘Letter to the Editor’ in this morning’s News-Mail which reflects the feedback that I’m receiving from communities across the region.
I’ve been asked to post it here for those who don’t read the News-Mail….
Truth in election
It never ceases to amaze me. Every election we have candidates who suddenly appear out of nowhere, all proclaiming to understand the needs of their constituents, making grand promises about what they will deliver if they are elected.
Let’s be honest (what – at election time?), these promises are just a wish list with no funding, no plan and no awareness of council’s obligations or workings.
Some of these grand promises involve infrastructure that isn’t even controlled by council, such as state managed roads or rivers.
The truth of the matter is that our council and councillors have a budget that they must work within, like any business.
As a bit of novelty for our aspiring politicians, let’s get some truth into this up-coming election. I put this challenge to all current councillors and candidates.
Rather than making wild, unsubstantiated claims and promises, that quite frankly won’t see the light of day, talk about what you bring to the table.
What experience do you have in the way of leadership? Are you a good communicator or do you have experience in managing people?
At the end of the day, it’s you and your voice that represent a division, not what you promise in the lead up to an election. So use your voice and tell us about you. How about it, up to the challenge?
