SHOWCASE OUR COAST

Nearly every day I see photos or comments posted on facebook pages highlighting the absolute majesty of our coastal region and the value of our unique lifestyle.

I was recently approached by Martin van der Merwe who moved to the area with his family a few years ago and was looking for a way to contribute towards the beautification of our region. After some discussion I suggested that we consider the formation of a dedicated team to help those who already pick up litter and generally look after the coastal strip. In particular, I suggested that this region deserves the accolades associated with winning the Keep Australia Beautiful (KAB) ‘Tidy Towns Award’, ‘Friendliest Town Award’ & ‘Clean Beaches Award’ to name but a few.

Over the years we have been well represented by dedicated members of the community who have gone down this track on a less formal approach however I now think that it would be great to make a more concerted effort so that they and people like Martin can be supported by a wider range of community members.

thICLF81NEMartin and I would be happy to provide some ‘seed’ sponsorship to get such a movement up and running and I’m hoping that a proactive community group such as the Bargara Progress Association could come on board as a host for the program. I’ve also been in contact with the CEO of KAB who is also keen to support such a move.

If we can get support from enough members of the community there really wouldn’t be much input required from individuals and it would provide an opportunity for the occasional community BBQ in one of our foreshore parks 🙂

I’m not looking for any commitment but would appreciate some general feedback and/or ideas.
