I’ve recently received complaints regarding sewerage odours affecting properties in the vicinity of McCavanagh Street, Croft Street & Birchdale Drive at Bargara. These relate to odours emanating from an area external to the affected homes.
Council officers carried out an inspection on Friday evening and determined that the odours are most likely discharging from elevated air valves on the western bypass rising sewer main. It’s beleived that the relevant valve seats have worn and are no longer providing an effective seal thus the leaks. As mentioned in earlier posts, any escaping odours are more offensive during the cooler winless evenings when they fail to dissipate into the atmosphere and are held close to ground level by a thermal blanket.
For obvious reasons, staff have classified this as an priority matter and remedial work will commence immediately and targeted for completion by the end of this week.
