The popular Childers Festival is on again and this year Council’s Community Events staff have arranged for a shuttle bus to run a return trip from Bargara to make it easier for residents to join in the festivities.
The bus will leave the Bargara Service Centre at 160 Hughes Road at 7.45am on Sunday 29th July and the return trip will depart from the bus terminus at the corner of Crescent & Lord Streets, Childers at 3.30pm.
The cost of the return trip is only $10.00/head and pre-paid tickets must be purchased from any of Council’s Service Centres by 4.45pm on Friday 27th July.
When it comes to Festivals, there is nothing quite like the Childers Festival, held every year on the last weekend in July.
Featuring a myriad of performers, artists and bands and food from every corner of the world, the Childers Festival is the only festival in Queensland which sees the Bruce Highway closed for the day.
From early on Sunday, which is the main day of the festival, highway traffic is diverted to allow Churchill Street to be transformed into a gigantic food, market stall and entertainment hub.
The events kicks off on the Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm with a street party based in Crescent Street with lively bands performing well into the night. Sunday’s entertainment runs from 9:00am to 3:30pm.
This year’s festival marks the 17th year the event has been held in Childers and promises to be as exciting as ever with entertainment favourites The Twine, Singing Chefs and Walisuma returning; while local Bundaberg music sensations, Quatro, are looking forward to performing at their first festival. Also new to this year’s entertainment lilneup are vibrant African dance band ‘Afrodisa’ and the irresistible Carribbean rhythms of steelpan band, ‘the Badjohns’.
Another highlight this year will be the Australian Year of the Farmer Roadshow. Local produce will be featured during the Festival, as part of this years theme ‘Savour It’!.
Parking is provided at several locations with shuttle buses operating throughout the day.
