Following a number of comments received through my weekly Meet & Greet forum, I’ve submitted a request to the regional Traffic Safety Committee for consideration of a dedicated right turn lane from Bargara Road to the student pick-up area at the Bargara State School.
The footpath in this area was recently upgraded to provide increased safety for walking and cycling students and to provide a more separated area for mums & dads to park as they collected their kids.
As a result, the area has become a lot busier and motorists have expressed concerns about turning off Bargara Road on the bend just west of the Seaview Road intersection.
Being a State controlled road, I’ve discussed the issue with local Member, Steve Bennett MP who agrees that the issue needs to be reviewed by qualified engineers and a solution put forward. Thanks Steve.
I’ve included a diagram of a suggested right turn lane with my request which will now be considered by the committee which includes representatives of the State’s Department of Transport & Main Roads which control that section of roadway.
Engineers may well come up with a better solution but at least the matter is being progressed.
