RAIN INUNDATION – Division 5 Update #1 – (1.00pm 25/1/13)
At 12.30pm all roads within Division 5 were open except for Wessells Road (joining Seaview & Hughes Roads) which has about 300mm of water running over it.
The Causeway over Money’s Creek has about 850mm of freeboard to the upper laggon and I have requested that all floodgates be opened and the lower lagoon closed to swimmers.
Council has issued the following Disaster Management Alert….
DATE: 25 January 2013
TIME: 11.00am
FROM: DEPARTMENT: Emma Gough Communications
TO: SUBJECT: edia Change from Watching Brief to Alert
This is to advise that as the result of the effects of the monsoonal trough and the low pressure system (Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald) that currently extends from the Mackay area to the Fraser Coast and the future movement of that trough the Bundaberg Local Disaster Coordinator, Peter Byrne, has advised that the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) will now move to the activation level of ALERT.
It is predicted that extensive rainfall will fall in the catchment areas of the Burnett River and effect coastal streams and rivers.
Flooding and localised flash flooding could eventuate.
Gale force winds associated with the trough are also expected.
The LDMG core group (comprising primarily the emergency services) will meet today in regards this weather event.
