Significant rain continues to fall across the region and I’ve just completed a road inspection of Division 5 to gauge the impact on our local network.
As of Midday Friday 1st May all roads remain open with the following roads worthy of special mention.
Wessell’s Road (between Seaview & Hughes Roads) has about 100mm of water running across it and this is likely to increase over the next few hours to the stage where it may become unsafe to traverse.
Hughes Road at the causeway still has about 600mm of freeboard but this is likely to reduce as water discharges from the upper catchment area. Whether the road surface is breached remains to be seen.
These two sections of roadway require special consideration and should be approached sensibly as even a little water across the road surface can result in vehicles aquaplaning if they’re travelling too fast for the prevailing conditions.
All the roads are likely to be slippery so bit of caution and a lot of common sense is recommended.
