QANTASLINK SCHEDULES 574 ADDITIONAL SEATS PER WEEK BBG-BNE

Last month one of Council’s General Managers and I met with the regional Business Manager for QantasLink and lobbied for additional flights from Bundaberg to Brisbane but with a strong emphasis on the Bundaberg to Sydney route.

Unfortunately, it appears that the numbers don’t yet stack up for the Sydney run however the airline has today announced an 18% increase in capacity on the Brisbane run which will add an extra 574 available seats per week. These will be provided by way of an additional return flight on Tuesdays and 6 upgrades to existing flights from Q300s to the larger Q400s.

I suspect that the upgrades may have been in the pipeline for some time and not necessarily the result of last month’s meeting however it’s certainly good news for the region and we’ll continue to promote the Syndey option at every opportunity.

Council has today issued the following related Media Release….

COUNCIL WELCOMES QANTASLINK UPGRADES

An expansion to the QantasLink service between Bundaberg and Brisbane is set to provide an 18% increase in available seating from next month.

Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor Mal Forman said the announcement of additional flights to and from Brisbane on Tuesdays was welcome news for Bundaberg travellers and potential visitors.

“Commencing from April 2 over an extended period, this additional flight and an upgrade in aircraft passenger capacity will increase the seat availability of all QantasLink flights in and out of Bundaberg to 3850 which constitutes a rise of around 18% in passenger numbers.

Economic Development portfolio spokesperson, Cr Greg Barnes said that while the increase in seat numbers, additional flights and an upgrade in aircraft sizes was welcome, Council was still engaged with QantasLink in discussions on direct flights to Sydney.

“Our negotiations for extended routes are progressing and Council is grateful to QantasLink for continuing to upgrade its services locally.”
