PALM LAKE ART ON SHOW
On Saturday, October 13th and Sunday October 14th, Palm Lake Resort Bargara will again be holding its annual Arts and Crafts Expo. Last year judges, the local business community and visiting dignitaries were universally impressed with the quality of its presentation and the excellence of its exhibits, and with the impressive increase in the number of residents in the past twelve months, Expo 2012 promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Councillor Greg Barnes will this year represent Mayor Mal Forman in officially declaring the Expo open at a VIP reception at 4pm on Saturday, October 13th, and will present the generous awards donated by sponsors Walter Elliott Holdings, Casey’s RV’s, Art Plus, Stephanie Mackay Hair Design, Positive Plumbing, TPH Paints, Elements Art, Affordable Screens and Blinds, and Taylor’s Hardware. Local artist Lesley French, potter Vicki Stewart, experienced craft judge Bernice Maidment, photographer Wayne Poulter and woodwork judge John Remington will give generously of their time and expertise to judge the various categories.
Over 150 items are expected to be on display in seven categories, with over 30 exhibitors represented. All exhibitors are residents of the Resort. Particularly pleasing are the entries in the Novice Art category, which is limited to residents who have only taken up painting since becoming residents, although the resort also boasts a number of professional artists including award-winning artists Diana Pertot and Elfie Duminy. The exciting art and craft programme at Palm Lake Resort is designed to encourage residents to discover and develop the creative in themselves, and events such as its annual expo not only celebrate what some residents have been able to achieve but also motivate and inspire others to discover dormant talents.
On Sunday 14th October, Palm Lake Resort will host an Open Day and all members of the public are cordially invited to attend, not only to enjoy the variety and quality of the exhibits, but to browse the art and craft stall, and to watch demonstrations of a variety of arts and crafts including woodturning, pyrographic art, portraiture, pottery and Chinese painting. Light refreshments catered by the Resort’s top-class chef Kylie will be provided. All in all, Expo 2012 promises something for all the family.
