NORTHSIDE TRAFFIC ROUTE TO REMAIN OPEN 24 HOURS

Fears that non-essential traffic would destroy the road pavement on Hanbury Street in North Bundaberg creating a temporary closure of the street have been allayed.

Bundaberg Regional Council staff have inspected the trouble spot in Hanbury Street and are hopeful of effecting repairs tonight without any major disruption to the current 24hour access of the route.

Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor, Cr. Mal Forman said traffic would continue to flow as normal providing it did not interfere with the repairs. “If we find traffic becomes too difficult to control we will close Hanbury Street in the vicinity of the repairs to ensure the work can be carried out safely.”

“We remain very concerned that sightseers, in addition to congesting the roads, are impacting on the road pavement. All travel within the North Bundaberg area should be for essential purposes only,” said Cr. Forman.

“Motorists requiring to travel to work in the CBD area or across to North Bundaberg tomorrow are advised to add some additional travel time,” he warned.

Cr. Forman said the 6pm curfew in the controlled area (the former exclusion zone) was still in force and all residents were to leave the area at that time.
