Bundaberg Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has been able to expand on the good news distributed today regarding the opening of the Burnett Traffic Bridge to two-way traffic tomorrow from 6am.
Mayor, Cr. Mal Forman who is Chair or the LDMG said he was delighted to announce that diligent work by road crews and emergency services will now enable the Perry Street/Hanbury Street/One Mile Road route between North Bundaberg and the Bundaberg CBD to remain open to traffic 24 hours a day.
Cr. Forman stressed that only essential light vehicle movements are permitted on the route. Caution is urged if the route is being traversed at night as only limited lighting is available.
In a further announcement, Cr. Forman said access to the North Bundaberg controlled area (the former exclusion zone) would now be available via North School Hill only. This access would only operate between the hours of 6am and 6pm.
He said the co-operation of the North Bundaberg community had been inspiring and he hoped people continued to observe that spirit of co-operation.
“All residents, property and business owners will be required to leave the controlled area by 6pm each day.”
“These arrangements announced today will remain in place until further notice,” said Cr. Forman.
