Council historically provides financial support for a community organisation to conduct a foreshore BBQ Breakfast on Australia Day however, despite calling for expressions of interest, none have been received this year.
I thought that I’d post this advice to head off any suggestion that Council was in some way failing the local community which is definitely not the case.
Whilst the Council will host the formal Australia Day Family Fun Day in the Botanical Gardens, it also provides funds to organisations across the region which want to host their own localised event and in recent years at Bargara this has been a BBQ breakfast on the foreshore.
Despite the lack of uptake this year, I’m sure that there will be many families and friends congregating to cook up a traditional feed and display their national flag!
Whilst everyone tends to have a great time, there have been occurrences in the past where some have let us down by acting up (especially around the Kelly’s Beach area). Hopefully this won’t happen again and I have no doubt that the local police will be conducting their usual patrols to keep an eye on things.
