A Federal Government communications program that commenced last year is progressively moving some free-to-air television channels to new frequencies.
The process is called “retune” and is scheduled to impact areas in and around Bundaberg during October.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Economic Development portfolio spokesman Cr Greg Barnes said that whilst the “retune” process is not a Council project, it wanted to assist the community by ensuring that it’s aware that this a final step in a nation-wide move to digital-only television.
“The Federal Government is undertaking this process of moving TV channels to other frequencies to free up space for new services such as mobile broadband.
“The retuning of transmission towers will result in a need for residents who receive their programs via an antenna to also undertake a retune of their television channels.”
Cr Barnes said the retune rollout would continue until the end of the year with the Bundaberg area scheduled for work around October 13.
He said that once a date had been set to undertake the retune, letters would be sent to local residents by the government providing information on the date selected and offering advice how to undertake the retune.
“Quite a bit of information about the retune program including fact sheets and frequently asked questions can be found at www.digitalready.gov.au/retune,” Cr Barnes said.
