The roar of a V12 Rolls Royce Merlin engine will fill the skies across the region on ANZAC Day when the P51-D Mustangs returns to conduct the traditional fly-past salutes.
The aircraft has been chartered by the Bargara Commemorations Committee which will be reimbursed through a generous donation by the Bundaberg Regional Council.
The Mustang last performed the role for our ten regional services in 2010 and since then we have welcomed a T-28 Trojan (2011), a Spitfire (2012), two Kiowa Helicopters (2012) and a Wirraway (2013).
It should be recognised that following the 2013 disasters, the owners of the Mustang kindly donated a joy flight from their Caboolture base which was raffled off at a function hosted by the Bundaberg Rising Committee.
Negotiations are currently underway to also secure the services of another Army Kiowa helicopter which is already scheduled to perform a fly-past for the East Bundaberg State School the day before ANZAC Day on the 24th April. Further advice will be posted once a decision has been made.
