Despite an incredible delay caused by incessant red-tape, a number of local roads which were damaged in the 2011 flooding event are finally being repaired under the Natural Disaster Relief & Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
Thankfully the assessment and approval regime for the 2013 NDRRA work is progressing far more rapidly which seems to be the result of the new State Government’s policy of cutting the red tape and streamlining the entire process for which we’re extremely grateful. In fact, we anticipate that some of the 2013 repairs will now be able to be done in conjunction with some of the outstanding 2011 jobs.
The work on Woongarra Scenic Drive near Rifle Range Road has commenced and should continue southwards to include the intersection upgrade over the next few weeks. Some re-designing of the proposed upgrade alignment has caused additional delays and like everyone else, I’ll be glad to see the work completed once and for all.
Other sections of WSD are also being re-surfaced together with sections of Seaview, Potters & Mittlehauser’s Roads and you can expect some minor trafiic delays around these sites.
Motorists will have also seen that the Department of Transport & Main Roads has also laid the final asphalt seal to Bargara Road between Seaview & Hughes Road after ensuring that the sub-surface pavement had stabilised following the reconstruction late last year and the ensuing January floods. Linemarking should be applied soon to finish off the job.
