Council has received an application to develop the vacant land situated near the intersection of Moodies & Watsons Roads, Bargara which was formerly owned by Australian Cricketer, Craig McDermott.
The land fell into the control of receivers several years ago and is now the subject of an application by Investec Bank (Australia) Limited which has applied to develop the land into 181 residential allotments.
The application includes 42 allotments with a minimum size of 600 sq ms & 139 with a minimum size of 800 sq ms which are proposed to be developed in 11 stages. A number of internal roads are proposed including one which will be constructed close to the southern boundary to eventually connect from Moodies Road to the proposed Hughes Road Extension of the North – South Distributor.
The vacant land which is located in a prime location has at times become overgrown and considered somewhat of an eyesore together with a haven for vermin and a potential fire hazard. Whilst there have been a number of inquiries from prospective developers over recent years, I know that many residents will now welcome the news of this application which follows extensive pre-lodgement discussions with Council’s planning staff.
The application will now be assessed in accordance with the relevant planning legislation to be followed by a report and recommendation to Council for consideration.
In the meantime I’m including a couple of links to documents which outline the proposal and it’s proposed road network connection to the Hughes Road Extension. (Please note that this connection is shown as running through Stages 7, 9 & 10).
