Misleading Maps Cause Confusion For Voters

I’ve received a number of calls from constituents who have been confused about the actual locations of the boundaries between Divisions 5 & 6 and therefore who their potential choices of Candidates are.

It appears that a candidate has posted maps on a website which are misleading in that they indicate the Divisional boundaries to be as they existed at the time of the 2008 elections and which have since been changed following extensive community consultation.

In an attempt to assist that community consultation, I have previously posted a number of updates on my website explaining that the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) has conducted the review of Divisional boundary alignments and has adopted a number of changes including those affecting Divisions 5 & 6. (Latest update available here)

The Bundaberg Regional Council has also issued media releases and maps detailing the re-aligned boundaries.

These boundary re-alignments have also been the subject of articles in local community newsletters throughout Division 5.

Voters need to be assured of the Division in which they reside and the Candidates which have nominated for their Division.

To clarify the issue, I again refer readers to the most relevant ECQ webpage which can be accessed by clicking here and selecting the Division of their choice to determine where its boundaries lie and/or inserting their address to determine which Division they live in and who their Candidates are.

Should anyone have any further inquiries I will be happy to assist them or they may wish to contact the local Electoral Officer, Mr. Maurie Wilson on  0467 774 547.
