Following the recent announcement of more than $400,000 in Federal Government funding for the Christsen Park upgrade, work is set to begin on a new amenities block as part of Stage Two of the $1.2 million redevelopment.
Portfolio Spokesperson for Natural Resources and Environment, Cr Bill Trevor said the amenities block was worth more than $150,000 with work being undertaken by a local contractor.
“Stage Two involves the construction of an amenities block, picnic settings with double-plated BBQs, landscaping and play areas. This construction work is providing jobs to people in our community with local contractor Jeff Lennox Builders secured as the successful tenderer for the new amenities building,” Cr Trevor said.
“Residents will notice that fencing has already been set up at the site, where the under-slab and pipework is due to be installed for the new toilet facilities.”
Representative for Division 5, Cr Greg Barnes said the redevelopment would enhance an iconic location at Bargara opening up the Basin and Kelly’s Beach areas to more visitor numbers and general community recreation.
“This work will only enhance Bargara’s reputation as the lifestyle capital and I acknowledge the generous contribution from the Australian Government and the work undertaken by our local Federal MP Keith Pitt to achieve this project,” Cr Barnes said.
“The grant of $401,078 from the Australian Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund plus the $450,000 Council allocated in its current budget will ensure the project is completed this financial year and removes a requirement to construct the facility over three stages. This means the project will be completed sooner with less disruption and a saving of more than $400,000.00 to ratepayers. This is a great win for our community.
“I would also like to thank residents for their patience during the temporary period of inconvenience which has enabled the Council to save an enormous amount of ratepayers’ funds”.
