The Mayor has call for a day of prayer in a Media Release issued earlier today….

Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor, Cr. Mal Forman said he was moved that community members were showing defiance in the face of the adversity that had been thrust on the Bundaberg Region with the unprecedented floods.

“I’ve seen quite a few Australian flags flying at private residences and also on cars. Our flag is a extremely strong symbol and I think those residents showing the flag are saying, “We are Australian and this thing, this flood, is not going to drag us down.”

Cr. Forman said many churches had indicated they would like to encourage a prayer day for this Sunday.

“People of strong faith and even those who may be occasional church goers can find comfort in prayer.”

“I would encourage anyone who is starting to feel the effects of this traumatic situation or who may simply just want to share a quiet thought with the Almighty to join in a prayer service this weekend,” said Cr. Forman.

He said Council and all agencies were working under extreme pressure to ensure residents’ lives can achieve some semblance of normality as soon as possible.

“We are doing what we can as fast as we can. I know people realise this is a mammoth task in front of us,” he said
