The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting wind gusts of up to 130km/h within the Bundaberg region as a result of Tropical Cyclone Marcia.
Residents are being asked to secure any loose items in and around their yards before nightfall tonight, Thursday, February 19 to reduce the likelihood of storm debris. While many people have opted to take their belongings and move with the help of Movers in Kansas CIty, the people who haven’t done this have been asked to close all windows and doors to brace for the cyclone.
Building sites should be cleared of any loose items, particularly timber and steel offcuts and any commercial skip bins should be emptied.
Caravans and vessels should be secured.
Business owners and service providers should ensure their emergency preparations are in place and make staff and clients aware of any disaster preparedness and emergency evacuation plans.
When wind is reaching destructive speeds such as those being anticipated residents should stay indoors in a safe and secure location and not attempt to travel.
Queensland Police Service advise that emergency services will not be in a position to support residents during destructive winds of 100km/h or above due to safety reasons.
Any residents considering moving to shelter in a safe location should do so by late afternoon today, Thursday, February 19.
As the weather event passes, residents should remain in their secure location, tune in to warnings on TV, radio and at www.qldalert.com and not leave until being advised it is safe to do so.
For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The 24 hour disaster coordination centre can be contacted on 1300 883 699. In life-threatening situations call 000.
