Eligible pensioners in the Bundaberg Region are invited to apply for reductions to their property rates with applications closing on January 23.
Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor Cr Mal Forman urged pensioners to check their eligibility to receive the available remissions.
“It’s important that residents realise if they have never before received a pensioner rates remission, that they need to lodge an application with Council,” Cr Forman said.
“Eligible residents are entitled to a State Government funded 20 per cent reduction up to a maximum of $200 per year and a fixed Council reduction of $140 per year.”
He said pensioners who had previously received and were still eligible to receive a rebate need not re-apply unless their circumstances have changed.
“These altered circumstances can include a change to a pensioner’s principal place of residence or a pensioner becoming ineligible to receive a concession.”
“In these events, the pensioner should contact Council immediately to advise of any change to eligibility.”
Pensioners can check their eligibility status by contacting Council’s Revenue Section on 1300 883 699.
Applications for the rebate need to be lodged by Friday, January 23. Forms to apply for the rebate are available at Council service centres in Bundaberg, Bargara, Childers and Gin Gin.
All applicants are required to produce their concession cards when applying for the remission.
Pensioners are also advised to check their pension card details and ensure they update this information with Centrelink or Veterans Affairs if necessary.
