Media Release – NEW COUNCIL GETS DOWN TO BUSINESS

A Post-Election Meeting to swear in the new Bundaberg Regional Council has been held, with Mayor Jack Dempsey and Councillors taking their oath of office.

Key items of business have been addressed, including the announcement of Deputy Mayor and the appointment of official Council spokespeople.

The following areas of responsibility relating to Council’s various business sections have been confirmed:

Finance and Economic Development – Mayor Jack Dempsey

Governance and Communications – Cr Helen Blackburn

Water and Wastewater – Cr Jason Bartels

Roads and Drainage – Cr Wayne Honor

Planning and Development – Cr Ross Sommerfeld

Waste and Recycling – Cr Scott Rowleson

Environment and Natural Resources – Cr Bill Trevor

Community and Cultural Services – Cr Judy Peters

Sport, Recreation, Venues and Disaster Management – Cr David Batt

Health and Regulatory Services – Cr Peter Heuser

Tourism and Regional Growth – Cr Greg Barnes

Deputy Mayor – Cr Bill Trevor

Mayor Jack Dempsey says he is looking forward to getting down to business and leading a team to deliver the key infrastructure and development programs for the region.

“As a Council team we will work collectively to deliver services that provide maximum value at minimal cost. This will be a matter of returning to basics and concentrating on the big three deliverables of roads, rates and rubbish,” Cr Dempsey said.

“We intend to build on the emerging confidence across our region. People are investing, businesses are expanding and our region continues to generate attractions to drive the visitor market. We want to maximize these opportunities.
