The Bundaberg Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has moved to alert status as a result of a flood watch issued by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) coupled with recent heavy rainfall across the region.
LDMG chair Mayor Mal Forman said ‘alert’ was the initial activation status of the LDMG.
“The LDMG moved to alert status yesterday afternoon and will remain at this activation level to monitor the current weather warnings,” Cr Forman said.
“While no significant rainfall has occurred across relevant catchments within the region overnight, moving to alert positions the LDMG to respond most effectively should significant rainfall eventuate.
“At present, there is no significant rainfall on the relevant radar.”
Cr Forman said the latest flood watch issued by BoM affected catchments in the Bundaberg region including the Cherwell, Burrum, Burnett and Kolan Rivers and Baffle Creek.
“Current forecasts indicate the region could be affected by 24 hour rainfall totals of 50-100mm over coming days as a result of a coastal trough developing in the Fraser Coast area.
“Advice from BoM contained in the flood watch also indicated that isolated falls of up to 300mm could be possible.”
He said the LDMG executive would meet tomorrow to review the weather situation and the relevant activation level.
