A visit to the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens on Monday (June 10) will be equal to a step back in time as 20 vehicles participating in the Highwheeler Rally take time out to display their vehicles to the public.
Highwheelers from across the country will converge on Bundaberg for the rally from June 10 to June 14, with the youngest vehicle being around 100 years old.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Community Services portfolio spokesperson Cr. Judy Peters encouraged all residents to take advantage of the rare spectacle rolling in to the region.
“Events such as the Highwheeler Rally can go a long way in supporting the region and lifting spirits in the community which is still recovering after this year’s natural disasters,” Cr Peters said.
“I hope residents across the region will extend a warm welcome to rally participants and head to the Gardens to enjoy a lovely day out on the Queen’s Birthday public holiday to inspect these amazing gas- light vehicles, which are a true reflection of the value of history.”
Bundaberg and district residents have the opportunity to view the magnificent old cars on Monday, June 10 June between 10.30am and 1.30pm at the Botanic Gardens, North Bundaberg.
The Highwheeler Rally will put on another public display on Thursday, June 13 at 6pm when the cars will form a “Gaslight Parade” through the CBD.
As well as enjoying the region’s many tourist attractions during their stay, rally participants
will also be visiting two local schools (Bargara State School and St Mary’s Catholic Primary School) and visiting residents at Gracehaven Nursing Home.
