Residents across the Bundaberg region are being encouraged to identify unwanted items around the house in the lead up to a free tip weekend scheduled for November 21 and 22.
Council’s Waste and Recycling portfolio spokesman Cr Vince Habermann said the free tip weekend provided an ideal opportunity for residents to prepare their properties for the annual storm season.
“Council is offering this free service to the community as part of its disaster management strategy,” Cr Habermann said.
“This initiative encourages residents to check their properties now for loose items that may pose a danger during a storm or cyclone.”
Cr Habermann said the Bundaberg and Fraser Coast Councils would be working in partnership to undertake a joint promotional campaign to let residents know that the free tip weekend was being offered in both regions.
“Residents of the Bundaberg and Fraser Coast regions may notice announcements about the free tip weekend on TV, radio and in their local newspapers. We want as many people as possible to know about the free tip weekend in these regions, as its imperative that people are prepared for natural disasters.”
“Residents are reminded that while the free tip weekend does extend to most domestic rubbish, the campaign does not include materials such as TVs, tyres, mattresses, commercial and industrial waste or loads in vehicles exceeding 4.5 tonnes.”
