Media Release – EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST OPEN TO HOST AUSTRALIA DAY EVENT

Are you part of a community group that will take up any opportunity to don the green and gold? Then don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate our nation by hosting Bundaberg Regional Council’s official Australia Day Celebrations!

Community and Cultural Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said expressions of interest were being invited from enthusiastic community focused groups to host the official celebrations on January 26, 2017.

“This is a terrific opportunity for a local community group to deliver an essential community event with support and funding from Council,” Cr Peters said.

“In recent years these celebrations have been hosted by Moore Park Bowls and Sports Club and Rotary City Daybreak with great success.

“The celebrations provide free family fun for everyone on our nation’s day and it is always well-attended.”

The official Australia Day Celebrations are subsidised by Council through financial and in-kind assistance with Council’s Event Coordinator and Cr Peters sitting on the organising committee to assist with event planning and implementation.

Cr Peters said interested groups could access an Australia Day Celebration Expression of Interest Information Package which outlined the conditions of application.

“The successful applicant will be responsible for the organisation, management and delivery of the event.

“Interested groups must complete an application form and a committee will assess all applications before making a recommendation to Council for approval.”

For more information contact the Community Events team on 1300 883 699 or cec@bundaberg.qld.gov.au.

Applications open on August 15 and will close on Septemer 2. Application forms and the information package can be found at www.bundaberg.qld.gov.au or requested at any Council Service Centre.
