Media Release – DON’T MISS YOUR CHANCE TO HAVE A SAY ON DRAFT RIVERSIDE PLAN

The Burnett Riverside is an iconic location in the heart of Bundaberg which plays a vital role in business, tourism and recreational pursuits within the region.

The Draft Bundaberg Riverside Master Plan contains a number of initiatives that would see this space better utilised and Bundaberg Regional Council is calling on residents to have their say before July 27.

Planning and Development portfolio spokesperson Cr Ross Sommerfeld said some residents may be unaware that aspects of the plan could relate to them.

“We’re not just looking for feedback from businesses and investors,” Cr Sommerfeld said.

“While their contribution is essential, we also want to hear from mums and dads and everyday residents about how they feel about changes proposed in the draft plan.

“For instance, there is a ‘temporary activation’ concept encased in the document which would see the Alexandra Park area more commonly used for activities like events that attract more than 15,000 people, fitness classes, outdoor movies and temporary markets.”

Cr Sommerfeld said families may be interested to know the plan proposes to extend Alexandra Park Zoo along Quay St, across Burrum St.

“The zoo is a much-loved, free community asset that has undergone significant improvements in recent times.

“It also includes a proposal for improvements around Anzac Park and Anzac Pool including a zero-depth water play facility and area for supporting businesses. This would be a popular inclusion in the master plan among residents and tourists alike while improving the parkland could serve to attract private investment.

“I would sincerely encourage all residents to take the time to read through the plan and provide Council with any feedback – whether it be in support of or against certain aspects proposed within.”

He said the proposals in the draft riverside master plan were a long-term vision and, once adopted by Council, would be rolled out over about 20 years.
