Animal management staff will be out in force from Monday (October 13) to undertake a dog registration survey and Council is urging residents to treat the officers with respect as they engage with the community.
Health and Regulatory Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Wayne Honor said as part of the survey Council staff and contractors were able to enter a property to search for signs of unregistered dogs.
“Anyone with an unregistered dog on their property is running the risk of receiving an on-the-spot-fine,” Cr Honor said.
“While this may not be welcome news to unregistered dog owners, and Council takes no joy in imposing fines, it is a State Government requirement under legislation that all domestic dogs be registered.
“We ask that residents treat the people undertaking this survey with respect. They are merely there to perform a job on Council’s behalf and have the full support of the law.
“Council staff will be assisted by a number of contracted personnel all of whom will be carrying appropriate identification, which can be requested by residents upon their entrance in to a property.”
