Bundaberg Regional Council has today welcomed the State Government’s announcement of $2.4 million in flood funding for the region.
Mayor Mal Forman said the funding, announced by Community Recovery and Resilience Minister David Crisafulli, would go towards building two separate levees and was a positive step towards improving the region’s flood resilience.
“Importantly, the levees will provide residents in parts of north Bundaberg with more time to leave their properties and an improved evacuation route in a flood event,” Cr Forman said.
“This State Government investment in our region is very much appreciated by Council as well as local home owners and businesses with properties in the area.”
The Mayor said Bundaberg Regional Council would continue to work with the State Government to provide further flood resilience strategies.
“These initial projects are being implemented in conjunction with the Burnett River Floodplain Management Action Plan work that Council is already doing to confirm, prioritise and deliver floodplain management options for the wider region,” he said.
“Over the coming months, Council will continue its work under an accelerated program in conjunction with the design and construction of the levees and Burnett River stabilisation work.”
The State Government also announced that Council would receive $82,405 for flood studies of the Lower Burnett River and lower Kolan River and Gin Gin Creek catchments.
