People are invited to ‘dress to impress’ in 1920s style and head to the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens Heritage Precinct, Mt Perry Road to help celebrate the birthday of Bundaberg’s famous solo pioneer aviator, Bert Hinkler.
Economic Development portfolio spokesperson, Cr Greg Barnes encourages our community to remember the life and achievements of our local hero by taking part in the ‘Gatsby Picnic’ style celebrations at the Hinkler Hall of Aviation on Saturday, December 5.
“Attendees will be entertained by jazz music from Bert’s era while enjoying a fantastic display of veteran cars,” Cr Barnes said.
“The whole family will take pleasure in the birthday celebrations, with face painting, old fashioned games, craft activities for the kids and prizes awarded to the best dressed in 1920’s clothing”.
“Children are encouraged to get involved with the crafts and make their own box kite to fly in honour of Bundaberg’s favourite son, Bert Hinkler,” Cr Barnes said.
Local jazz band, the Hinkler Hustlers, will play throughout the morning with Pilotlight Productions providing fun and flair in their 1920’s costumes. The train will be running throughout the day as Bundaberg steps back in time to celebrate their favourite son.
Food and drink will be available from Café 1928 or support TS Bundaberg with their sausage sizzle.
Bring your blanket and picnic basket and be a part of the Great Gatsby Picnic. The event will run from 9am– midday with official proceedings at 10am.
Hinkler Hall of Aviation will be celebrating with a birthday special of $5 per person entry into the Hinkler Hall of Aviation and Bert Hinkler House or free for those in 1920’s costume.
