Bundaberg Regional Council is helping residents reclaim the Botanic Gardens and its attractions with free admission to the Hinkler Hall of Aviation and a morning of family fun at the official reopening between 10am and 1pm on Saturday (June 8).
Event organiser and Hinkler Hall of Aviation Team Leader Colleen Foglia said staff wanted to welcome the people of Bundaberg back to the Botanic Gardens.
“We want to get the message out there that we are back in business after the floods,” Colleen said.
“The gardens and the facilities here such as the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, the historical museum, Fairymead House and CafĂ© 1928 are all fully restored.”
She said the rejuvenation of the gardens was incredible after the devastation it endured.
“People can come out and see that the Botanic Gardens are as beautiful as they ever were.”
Council’s Economic Development (Tourism Operations) Spokesperson, Cr. Greg Barnes is encouraging the community to celebrate, with a free sausage sizzle for the first 150 people to arrive together with kids activities and free admission to Hinkler Hall of between 10am and 1pm.
“With three hours of free admission, a free sausage sizzle and a day of fun on the agenda, this is an ideal opportunity for parents to bring their kids to learn more about the history of our region,” he said.
“To top off the day, some of The Furries will also be attending between 10am and 12pm and will provide photo opportunities for both the kids and their parents.”
