A quick update on some local roadworks…..
Seaview Road The entire section of Seaview Road south of Watson’s Road has now been re-sealed and a number of sections to the north are also close to finalisation.
The sweeper truck will be going over the works to remove loose stones and the works will be allowed to ‘settle’ for 1 – 2 weeks before the final asphalt surface is applied together with new bollards and line-marking.
The work will compliment the upgrade of the Seaview/Windemere Roads intersection and will be completed before the Christmas break.
Money’s Creek Causeway As previously advised, work on the western alignment of The Causeway commenced yesterday morning and will continue for a couple of weeks. During this time, motorists are urged to use alternative routes to avoid delays as the roadway is reduced to a single lane with traffic control officers in place.
During the works, pedestrians will be directed to the eastern alignment where barriers will provide a narrow and safe thoroughfare for them.
Due to the width of this thoroughfare, cyclists are requested to utilise the roadway surface under the direction of the traffic controllers and in unison with slow moving vehicular traffic.
Persons on mobility devices will be given access on the pedestrian thoroughfare under the direction of traffic contollers.
At the same time additional work will also be undertaken to repair flood damage at the intersection of Woongarra Scenic Drive & Causeway Drive.
These works are likely to be a pain in the proverbial for a couple of weeks however they will result in a much improved crossing for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and the disabled. I’ve been assured that the work will be completed before the Christmas break.
Emergency Services have been advised of potential delays and will re-route accordingly in response to any calls received.
Wessell’s Road Work to stabilise and re-surface Wessell’s Road between Seaview & Hughes Roads has been completed.
Bargara Lakes Drive Work to re-surface the entrance to Bargara Lakes Drive is being carried out by a private contractor and is well advanced.
The work will see the broken paved surface replaced with asphalt and I understand that it should be completed before the Christmas break.
Rifle Range/Windermere/Back Windermere Roads Roundabout Plans are underway to commence the construction of the new roundabout at the above intersection towards the end of this financial year.
The roundabout will be the first stage of the Hughes Road Extension which will eventually traverse vacant land between the intersection and Watson’s Road and form a vital part of the North-South Distributor Road.
Estimated to cost approximately $2.3M, the roundabout work is scheduled to be carried out over the current and the 2014/15 financial years with further northward stages proposed over successive years.
The installation of a trunk sewer main (beneath the route of the proposed works) between Watson’s Road and Poincianna Drive, Innes Park North has recently been completed.
