LOCAL ROADS RECEIVE A NEW SURFACE

Last year and earlier this year I received complaints about the condition of various sections of road pavements which weren’t caused by flood damage. I’ve emphasise this because many people will (understandably) wonder why other sections of road which are more severely damaged have not been repaired first.

The reason is that many of the long-standing sections of damaged roads are eligible for the State/Federal NDRRA flood recovery funding which means that ratepayer funds don’t have to be contributed and can retained for use elsewhere (The section of Woongarra Scenic Drive near Rifle Range Creek Road is a classic example).

One of the problems associated with the NDRRA system is that the application, assessment, approval & tender process takes time (in some cases years) which causes confusion/frustration for many road users who wonder why Council doesn’t just go ahead and repair the road. When the process is explained, they tend to appreciate that it’s better and more financially responsible, to go through the flood recovery process and save ratepayer dollars.

The roads within Division 5 which have recently been re-surfaced under the Council’s maintenance program include:

  • Orlabah Avenue, Bargara – full section
  • Balengera Court, Bargara – full section
  • Berrimbah Court, Bargara – full section
  • Clare Court, Bargara – full section
  • Innes Park Road, Innes Park – between The Esplanade & Coolanblue Avenue
  • Coolanblue Avenue, Innes Park – between Innes Park Road & Vesta Street
  • Vesta Street, Innes Park – between Coolanblue Avenue & Badilla Street
