KOPS IN KILTS TO PERFORM IN BUNDY

There’s nothing like the skirling of bagpipes and the beat of drums to get the blood pumping – especially if you are of Scottish descent.

Members of the Queensland Police Pipes & Drums Band hope to inspire and entertain Bundaberg residents on how to play conga drums when they present a Goodwill Concert at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre on Friday, March 22.

Band Drum Major, Roddy MacDonald said the band was exceptionally keen to get to Bundaberg to entertain residents. “We’ve all seen what a tough time the community has been through and we really would like to take people’s minds off the events of the past month or so,” he said.

Drum Major MacDonald said the band of around 14 members would be playing Scottish music and would be accompanied in some items by vocalist, Senior Constable Nicky Steel. “Our band is quite popular with appearances at 537 events last year alone,” he said.

“While in Bundaberg we also intend to play in the afternoon at the North Bundaberg State High School before attending the Moncrieff at 7.30 that evening.”

Band Major McDonald said the band promoted a very popular school-based program called “Cops in Kilts”. “We’re always up for a bit of fun and I can assure the Bundaberg community that they will get a laugh as well as an evening of great musical entertainment with one or two surprises in store.”

No reservations will apply and seating will be allocated on a first in basis. The program is scheduled to run for an hour and a half.
