Council has been formally notified that as of Wednesday 29th October 2014, KRA 86 & KRA 87 have been removed from the State Planning Policy (SPP) Interactive Mapping System confirming the win by residents opposing the proposed quarry at Coral Cove/Innes Park.
A fact sheet detailing the changes can be viewed here however these are the reasons provided in support of the removals:
Removal of KRA 86 and the northern part of KRA 87 (adjacent to Back Windermere Rd):
Rock deposits within these quarries are no longer considered to meet the criteria for regional significance and consequently have been removed from the SPP Interactive Mapping System. This is in response to recent Planning and Environment Court decisions which place relatively short time-frames on permissible extractive activities in those quarries. These resources do not require ongoing future protection through the SPP as they will no longer contribute a significant proportion of regional demand for extractive materials.
Removal of the southern part of KRA 87 (adjacent to Barolin Homestead Rd):
While it is acknowledged a resource exists in this location, it has been determined that extractive industry at this location would compromise the state interests for liveable communities and tourism. The on-going planning protection of this resource through the provisions of the SPP is no longer warranted.
