Bundaberg Regional Council will from 6pm this evening lift restrictions relating to the identified “controlled area” which will allow complete access to all parts of North Bundaberg by volunteers who may wish to assist in the cleanup,
Council is implementing a Transition Plan to allow some North Bundaberg residents to return to their homes.
Mayor, Cr. Mal Forman said under the terms of the Transition Plan, residents who have water available, and their homes are deemed as structurally sound, will be permitted to re-occupy those premises.
“Residents should also be aware that the status of sewerage mains in all areas of North Bundaberg is an unknown.”
“At this stage the non availability of power is not an impediment to people returning to their homes. I would advise residents contemplating returning to their homes that significant noise is being generated during Council night time operations in the area.”
“In the interests of safety I would urge that all residents stay within their property boundaries between the hours of 6pm and 6am,” said Cr. Forman.
“We have heavy machinery operating in the area after dark and we want to confine movements within the flood damaged area to Council and emergency vehicles during these hours. Ergon and Main Roads are also undertaking significant work and the dangers of wandering the streets after dark are obvious,” said Cr. Forman.
Residents working on their homes and properties but who are unable to stay in their premises due to lack of services should exit the area by 6pm.
