Ross Peddlesden has posted his concerns over the state of septic systems in the Innes Park North area suggesting that a lack of maintenance by the property owners (particularly on older systems) could be contributing to the issue.
He has suggested, “Perhaps there’s a role for someone from Council to do some education on maintenance of septics and perhaps give individual advice, giving preference to pensioners and those on benefits. There are plenty of skilled staff, and it’d cost virtually nothing.”
I can’t agree that such a proposal would “cost virtually nothing”. Unfortunately, allocating skilled staff which are already stretched to the limit to provide individual advice for residents about their personal on-site septic systems would actually come at a significant cost to ratepayers at a time when the community is screaming out for efficiencies.
Whilst I appreciate the gist of his post, I would suggest that a far more efficient solution would be to provide an online or letterbox-delivered information sheet such as this one which is provided by the Gold Coast City Council…… http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/documents/bf/septic_system_guide.pdf
I’ve forwarded this suggestion to the relevant manager for comment.
