Bundaberg Regional Council is encouraging residents to take part in the RSPCA’s Operation Wanted campaign by offering up to 12 months free dog registration.
Council’s Health and Regulatory Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Wayne Honor said the Council was a partner in the Operation Wanted campaign which was offering residents a 20% discount for dog and cat microchipping and desexing at six local vets.
He said dogs desexed during the campaign would be eligible for up to 12 months free registration for the 2014/15 registration period.
“It’s pleasing to see our local veterinarians and businesses coming on board alongside Council to support this initiative and we hope the community will be just as receptive,” Cr Honor said.
“This is about providing incentives that will encourage people to think about responsible pet ownership.
“Ultimately we hope this campaign will see a reduction in the number of unwanted dogs and cats ending up at Council’s pound facilities or RSPCA shelters.”
As part of the campaign participating pet owners will not only receive the 20% discount off microchipping and desexing but also go in to the draw to win a pet friendly holiday on the Sunshine Coast or one of ten fuel vouchers worth $1200.
The six participating vets are:
• Vet Cross Gin Gin
• Sugarland Veterinary Clinic
• Vet Cross Bundaberg
• Bronson Small Animal Veterinary Clinic
• Barolin Greencross Veterinary Hospital
• Vet Cross Bargara
