After some 18 months, the flood mitigation works on Coral Cove Drive between Jess Place & Barolin Esplanade have finally commenced today.
The work is being carried out with funding obtained through the State Government’s Natural Disasters Relief & Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) but has been delayed through the funding application, assessment & tendering processes, as well as negotiations with an adjacent landowner and inclement weather (see related post here).
The work is not the subject of a simple re-surface but requires the complete re-contruction of the affected section of roadway at an estimated cost of nearly $500,000. It’s anticipated that it will be completed by the end of September depending on weather impacts.
Unfortunately, a traffic diversion will be required via a return route through Homestead Boulevard, Back Hill Drive & Bisdee Street throughout most of this period.
Stewart’s Buses are also making temporary alternative arrangements for their pick-up and drop-off routes which are likely to remain in place until the end of the September school holidays and a separate advice in this regard will be issued in due course.
This has been a frustratingly drawn-out process and I appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents and especially those who have been most affected by the disruption.
I’ll be posting information on any related updates on the progress of this work as it comes to hand.
